MEET ERICA

New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community

Erica was born and raised on the west side of San Antonio.  Raised by her grandmother, aunt, and father, Erica attended and graduated from John Jay High School.  Soon after high school, Erica married her high school sweetheart, Corey.  Erica attended the University of Texas at San Antonio until Corey’s Air Force career took them overseas to Guam where they lived for two years.  While in Guam, Erica completed her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology and became the first member of her family to earn a college degree.

Upon returning to San Antonio in 2008, Erica took a position as a Case Manager with Catholic Charities where she worked closely with the Guardianship Program attorney to provide both legal and social services to elderly and disabled individuals and their families.  It was through this position that Erica’s desire to commit her career to public service and interest in the legal profession began.

In 2010, Erica started a new chapter in her career and applied to the St. Mary’s School of Law.  During law school, Erica gained experience by working as an intern for Bexar County Criminal District Court Administration and at Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid.  Erica graduated from St. Mary’s Law in 2012 and worked briefly as a solo practitioner before she began her career as an Assistant District Attorney at the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.

Erica served as an Assistant District Attorney for 6 years.  During her time at the District Attorney’s Office, Erica was assigned to multiple county and district courts.  Through her different assignments, Erica reviewed thousands of criminal cases, tried numerous criminal cases, and served as a supervisor, mentoring other Assistant District Attorneys.

In 2019, Erica left the District Attorney’s Office and took her current position as a Staff Attorney for the Office of Court Administration with the Bexar County Criminal District Courts.  As a Staff Attorney, Erica conducts legal research on multiple legal issues, drafts legal memorandums, jury charges, reviews writs of habeas corpus and appeals for the Criminal District Court Judges.

Erica is knowledgeable, competent – and as a lifelong Bexar County resident – has a stake in protecting our community.  Growing up in a working-class family, Erica learned the value of hard work and perseverance.  From her position at Catholic Charities conducting social work and continuing through to her current position as counsel for the Bexar County Criminal District Court Judiciary, Erica’s career has built more than just the solid foundation needed to serve the Bexar County community.  Through her career, Erica has shown her desire to serve the people of Bexar County, the ability to be fair, to uphold the law, and to serve justice.  If elected, Erica plans to continue to serve the Bexar County community as she has throughout the entirety of her career.

In her free time, Erica enjoys spending time with her husband of 16 years, Corey and their two sons, Alexander and Nicholas.  They enjoy taking their boys to the zoo, the train, and to Kiddie Park.  She loves this city and the wonderful melting pot of culture that makes San Antonio such a wonderful place to raise her children.
